Campaigns

With over 300 associated charities it is impossible to send them all volunteer teams three times a year and keep track of absolutely everyone’s wants and demands. To that end we have some specific campaigns to help us assist as many charities as possible and help our supporters and donors have clear options as to where their money goes. £8.80 of every £10 donated to WVS goes straight to the animals so we have very low overheads and intend to keep it that way. The below are our current campaigns and some details about our charity of the month and why we think it deserves your support!

International Training Centre (ITC):

Campaigns IndiaWe simply can’t send out enough teams each year and so to that end we came up with the idea to create a unique animal hospital facility in South India, called the International Training Centre. The ITC will provide a series of modular training courses for vets, paravets, shelter workers and animal welfare volunteers, focusing on education and practical training and dealing with a wide range of animal health and welfare related topics. We are going to run courses (5-10 days) catering for different types of animals, where people can come along and learn best practice techniques and gain advice on how to manage a shelter, a sanctuary or even how to set one up! It will be a centre of excellence focused on providing advice and support to the global animal welfare community.

Campaigns India2

Ambitious – definitely – but we are not doing this alone. We are teaming up with leading animal charities around the world to set this up and get it running by the end of the year. We have support from the Indian government, a team already on the ground and a comprehensive budget and business plan approved by the trustees. The ITC will also have a comprehensive online community and support through it’s own website. We need lots and lots of donations to equip the centre but in terms of making a difference to people and animals, the ITC is going to be fantastic and the only one of its kind in the world. Rabies Vaccination Campaign – Lusaka, Zambia:

Campaigns Rabies

1000 dogs need to be vaccinated on July 1st in Lusaka – capital city of Zambia, which is one of the  poorest countries in the world. Each dose of rabies costs £5. £5,000 will protect not only the dogs but also the people in the community in which they live – particularly the children who get bitten most by rabid dogs. Let’s get it done. Please go to the Donate page and indicate Rabies Campaign in the comments box.

Surgical Kit Campaign:

We have ten charities who are desperate for surgical kits – lets do it. £200 for a bitch spay kit and these ten charities need three each. We need to raise £6k and do this. Please go to the Donate page and indicate Surgical Kit Campaign in the comments box.

Operating Theatre for Care for Dogs, Thailand:

Campaigns Thailand

Care for Dogs are struggling with the overwhelming numbers of dogs that pass through their doors.  It’s a challenge to get them in to the city to see a vet as it’s so far away.  It’s much easier and kinder to the animals to get the vets to come to them.  We need to raise £6,000 to get them the basic equipment they need to set up an operating theatre.  This project really will be saving lives, so please help.  Please go to the Donate page and indicate Care for Dogs Campaign in the comments box.

Microscope for the Elephant Orphanage Project:

Campaigns EOP£1,000 – this is a wonderful charity that is still quite young, but having a major impact in Zambia. It is the only elephant orphanage in the country and they need our help. We have visited them, sent a team to help them and we do our best to advise them, but the most use we can be is providing them with specific equipment and the training in how to use it. A microscope is an invaluable bit of kit – but expensive. You can monitor parasites with it, check for blood infections and it is one of the cornerstones of field medicine. Donate here to help baby orphan elephants – doesn’t get much more heartfelt than this. We’ll even show you it being used and the baby elephants you are helping! Please go to the Donate page and indicate Microscope Campaign in the comments box.

Charity of the month:

SPCA in Uganda. On a shoestring – they need a heap of stuff to turn things around. They are the only charity in the capital city of Uganda and they struggle, but deserve help because they don’t give up. Run entirely on a voluntary basis in their spare time, this charity is great and we want to help them. They really deserve your support this month. Please chip in –  We have done our best to equip them when Luke visited last year but they need a lot more. Scales, microscope, a whole range of things.  Please go to the Donate page and indicate SPCA Uganda Campaign in the comments box.
