Fighting to Save the Dogs of Malawi: Rocky’s Story

Mon 2nd Sep 2019

At the Worldwide Veterinary Service clinic in Blantyre, Malawi, our vets are busy treating all kinds of injuries. Just two weeks ago, they met Rocky, a dog with an extremely large, and badly infected, head wound.

Rocky’s owner brought him to the clinic after he was involved in a vicious dog fight. The wound desperately needed expert veterinary treatment to cure this potentially deadly infection.

Understandably, the owner was incredibly worried about his beloved dog and didn’t know what to do. Our team were able to reassure him that Rocky’s injury was completely treatable, but it would take some time before it healed completely. Fortunately, the Worldwide Veterinary Service team is dedicated to providing the best care for as long as it’s needed!

After cleaning the wound and surrounding area, the team got to work bandaging his head with wet to dry bandages. Applied when wet, these bandages stick to the wound – drawing out any dirt and contamination as they dry. After 10 days, Rocky’s condition had improved and the wound was healing nicely.

Rocky’s devoted owner travelled to visit every day to check on his progress and support his dog. We’re excited to say that he’s now able to go home – much to his owner’s delight!

Without our centre, owners would have nowhere to turn to for help with their animals meaning dogs like Rocky would not get the vital care they need. Rocky’s wound would have only got worse and, without treatment, the infections would have claimed his life.
